Statelessness Platform Retreat, Athens, 3,4 and 5 July 2018

n 2015, the Justice and Home Affairs Council mandated the Europen Migration Network to establish a platform for exchange of information and good practices on the issue of statelessness. The EMN Platform on Statelessness was established by the Steering Board of EMN on 20 May 2016 and is coordinated by the national contact point for Luxembrourg. Within its activities, the national contact points for Luxembourg and Greece, following an invitation by UNHCR, organized a thematic training seminar on the EMN Platform on Statelessness under the title Statelessness Platform Retreat that took place in Athens, on 3,4 and 5 July 2018.

Over fifty participants from EU member states, experts from government departments and civil society met in Athens in this first joint EMN NCP event, with the view to learn more, raise awareness and exchange views and ideas on all aspects of statelessness.

In the margins of the retreat, participants took a guided tour in the Acropolis Museum and enjoyed a social dinner attended also by the Minister for Migration Policy, Mr Dimitrios Vitsas, the Secretary General for Migration Policy, Mr Miltiadis Klapas, the Secretary General for Reception, Mr Andreas Gougoulis, the Asylum Service Director, Mr Markos Karavias, and the representative of UNHCR, Mr Petros Mastagkas.
